All is lost F O U R D U M M I E S
The artist collective F O U R D U M M I E S is facing oblivion. Just before the completion and presentation of the group’s retrospective F O U R D U M M I E S – A Haptic Avatar Of Visual Perfection at the imagetanz Festival, all images of its artistic work have been lost! Audience and passers-by are asked for a visual assistance.
Imitation of memory & a fake retrospective
In the F O U R D U M M I E S atelier in the Künstlerhaus Passagegalerie, which has mutated into a photo booth between flash machine and memory generator, moments of the collective’s many years together are re-staged to respond to the loss of the data and to continue writing the group’s history by way of imitation. Previously undocumented events and past performances will be choreographed and reconstructed with voluntary doubles and image patrons who allow their faces to be moved into the right frames. Likeness creates facts. Being there is everything – investment, document and memory.
F O U R D U M M I E S work around the clock: their workflow can be viewed between 6 and 11 pm on location. On four evenings the night shift starts at 10 pm where performances of the collective's past are reconstructed - this is where every face counts for F O U R D U M M I E S (11, 12, 14 and 15 March). The series of newly reconstructed images are celebrated with after-work drinks.
At the end of the imagetanz Festival, the recreated evidence of F O U R D U M M I E S artistic past will be made public as a retrospective of twenty years of collaboration.
